Roll Up Plastic Window Blinds go with Barbecue

Roll up plastic window blinds should be the first thing on your to do list if you a planning a barbecue or get together on your back porch.

These inexpensive porch blinds will save the party and allow you and your visitor to enjoy the back yard and each others company.

Nothing will put a damper on a party faster than the Sun blazing down with no where to go for relief. A ten dollar blind can give you a thousand dollars worth of relief.

A ten dollar bill will get you a 6'x 6' blind. They usually come in even foot sizes 3,4,5,6,8' and 10' by 6' long. You used to be able to get the 8' length but they are getting harder to find. Home Depot eliminated the 8' length about a year and a half ago.

The choice of colors isn't real outstanding, white, brown and sometimes a dark green. But for what they do color isn't that important.

Installation is a breeze. They usually come with J hooks witch you screw into the wall and hang the shade on. If you have a screw gun throw away the J hooks and use #8 x 3/4 hex head screws or TEK screws if going into aluminum. The built in washer on the screws does a better job than the hooks.

The usually just roll down from the top with a cord stop or cleat setting where you stop. You want to be sure that you roll them up in a storm.

Last year during hurricane "wilma" we were all shut up in the house with all the hurricane shutters down. The first half of the Hurricane was nothing and as the eye went over we went outside to examine and all was well.

We kept hearing on the radio the back half was terrible so we went back in to wait it out. When the second half started we knew we were in for it. The shutters started banging- they hadn't the first half- and we heard this terrible banging noise from the back porch.

I knew in my heart that we had lost the back porch but didn't want to say anything to the rest of the family. When you have hurricane shutters down you can't see anything outside at all. It's totally dark inside the house.

When the storm past I open up the side door to the garage to go out and survey the damage. The house was fine. We lost a big tree in the front yard and the back yard including the back porch.

The loud banging noise I had heard during the hurricane was our roll up plastic window blind that I had forgotten to tie up securely.

I know for a fact that the roll up plastic window blinds are not hurricane prof but they are great sun and bad weather blockers.

Bottom line is don't plan a patio or outdoor party with out them. For a little money they will pay big rewards.
