Honeycomb Blinds = Twice The R-value

Honeycomb blinds are not only great looking but they beat out wood blinds by 2 to 1 in R-value. Thats quite an accomplishment for such a fragile looking blind.

different honeycomb sizes

The secret to this accomplishment lies in those cells or dead air spaces you see to the left. Moving air is what transfers the heat or the cold. By trapping the air in those spaces you eliminate the air flow and stop-dead in its tracks-the transfer of heat or cold.

Wood blinds have slats which are not nearly as effective as the dead air space for stoping the transfer of energy. Dead air spaces rule when it comes to insulating.

The R-value rates the effectiveness of the window covering at preventing energy from flowing to the outside. The higher the number, the more insulating the product.

2" wood blinds have an R-value rating of 1.1 while honeycomb blinds run from 2.1 to 2.3 on the R-value scale depending on the product. These figures are for cell shades with a single pane of glass. For a double pane the R-value goes up to 3.1 to 3.3. Love those dead air spaces!

While we usually associate this with keeping warm in the winter don't forget it works just as well in the summer time to keep the heat out and the cool in.

Honeycomb Shades icon come in hundreds of different color as well as different textures. Look at them all you'll be sure to find just the right color and pattern to fit your decor.

Like everything man made honeycomb blinds due have some drawbacks. When they are down and protecting your inside temperature you won't be able to see out. What you will see is the soft gentle colored light filtering to every part of your room.

For those hard to reach places or windows too hight to reach, especially if you don't want a cord dangling in the middle of your window these cell shades icon are available with a motor and remote control so you can adjust the blinds with ease and convenience.
