Custom Roman Window Blinds Allow Decorator Fabric To Show Off.

And show off it does by allowing the full pattern to cascade down the window. Custom roman window blinds due justice to any decorator fabric even those large 40"-50" Jay Yang Prints that are so popular.

Custom romans come in two styles. The flat roman which allows the full fabric and print to be seen as the shade is completely flat when in the lowered position. If you have a fabric that you want to show off the whole pattern, like a Miami Dolphins Print then the flat roman would be your shade of choice.

On the other hand, if you have fabric that coordinates with the rest of the room and you want the colors to stand out, then using the hobbled or looped roman with its luxurious tiered fabric is the way to go.

Custom roman window blinds are available two different ways. The first is what I call truly custom in that you furnish the face fabric to be made into roman blinds, then the workroom takes that fabric and fabricates the roman blinds to your specifications.

The second way to get the custom roman window blinds is to purchase them from a reliable company iconthat make them to your specifications out of their available patterns.

The choices of fabric and patterns are limited this way but the quality is excellent and the cost is held down.

Roman shades are expensive compared to a lot of other window treatments, but the look you get is well worth the expense. A good quality roman shade made by a custom workroom out of a decorator fabric will cost as much as a shutter for the same window.

Custom roman window blinds are labor intensive. There are a couple of companies that have tried to shortcut the steps to make a good roman. The results just don't compare to a quality blind.

If you are interested in making your own roman shades Jennifer Thoden has an excellent ebook called, "How To Make Roman Shades." In the book she goes into detail how to make the different styles of roman shades.

When making your own you will need a quality source of decorator fabric. Fashion Fabrics online is an excellent source of decorator fabric at good prices. They have a good selection of quality fabrics from which to choose.

After selecting the fabric for your new roman shades you need to decide whether to line them or not. All fabricators offer either regular lining or blackout lining.

Regular drapery lining will save you money in the long run by protecting the face fabric from the effects of the sun. Unless you are having the shade made out of a sheer material I would recommend you line the roman shade.

Blackout lining is another story. Part of the beauty of custom roman window blinds is the light coming through the decorator fabric to give a soft colorful glow to your room. Putting blackout lining on your shades compromises the look and the feel of the blind. It eliminates all the life and good looks of the shade.

Unless you need to sleep during the day I would not suggest putting blackout lining on any type of window treatment.

Another bad quality of blackout lining is that when you sew through it you create a row of tiny holes that the light does come through. This in turn causes an unsightly pattern on your shade. Once again, don't use blackout lining unless you absolutely have to.

Custom roman window blinds are definitely worth considering for your windows. Regardless of whether you make them yourself or have them made you can do no better than having these gorgeous blinds cascading full of color and excitement down your windows.
